Auron Mein Kahan Dum Tha[a] is a 2024 Indian Hindi-language romantic thriller film written and directed by Neeraj Pandey.[4][5] The film stars Ajay Devgn and Tabu in their tenth film together[6] alongside Jimmy Sheirgill, Shantanu Maheshwari and Saiee Manjrekar.[7][8]
The project between Pandey and Devgn was announced in October 2022. Principal photography commenced in February 2023 and wrapped in April 2023.[9] The film score and soundtrack album was composed by M. M. Keeravani. Auron Mein Kahan Dum Tha was initially scheduled to be released on 5 July 2024, but later delayed on request of film exhibitors and film distributors.[10][11] It was eventually released theatrically on 2 August 2024 to mixed reviews from critics and became a box-office bomb, grossing only ₹12 crore in its theatrical run.[12][13][14] Plot The film story follows a couple whose love story spans 23 years from 2000 to 2023, delving into the emotional depth and evolving dynamics of their relationship over two decades. Krishna gets involved in multiple murders and is sentenced to life imprisonment. This leads to Vasudha getting separated from him and marrying Abhijeet. After 22 years when Krishna is released from prison after getting pardon, he yearns to meet Vasudha. It culminates in one final meeting between Krishna and Vasudha. Auron Mein Kahan Dum Tha bears a slight resonance of 2023 English-Korean drama Past Lives. It tracked the lives of two characters over a period of 24 years as they go their separate ways and reunite after years under different circumstances, only for one of them to realise they never stopped loving the other person. It was straight to the point, and the emotions felt raw. Minimalism sadly isn’t friends with Bollywood’s style of storytelling.  This Hindi drama kicks off with convict Krishna (played by Ajay Devgn) who doesn’t want to leave prison. He’s serving a double murder sentence for 23 years now. Why he did what he did is basically the plot of Auron Mein, quite wafer thin indeed. Shantanu Maheshwari plays Ajay’s younger self in 2001, in love with Vasudha (a sprightly Saiee Manjrekar). Their chemistry is believable, and that was important because their older selves are played by Ajay and Tabu, who are doing their zillionth film together. But one night changes their lives forever. Why does Vasudha not wait for Krishna? Why does he not want to come out of jail? Who makes them meet finally? That daily soap aesthetic Auron Mein Kahan Dum Tha is both conventional and unconventional at the same time. I am all for making love stories about different age groups. Here, we see how rash young love is. Also, how practical love becomes as one grows older. |
