When ‘Pushpa: The Rise’ hit theatres in 2021, it garnered tremendous buzz not just domestically but also global audiences loved its concept and Allu Arjun’s performance in it. Now, the actor is set to make a comeback to the silver screen with its sequel titled ‘Pushpa 2: The Rule.’ Packed with intense action sequences and powerful musical compositions, the movie’s teaser has finally been released today, coinciding with Allu Arjun’s birthday.

The Allu Arjun-led Telugu movie is set to hit the silver screens on Thursday, August 15, 2024, in Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, Tamil, and Hindi languages, coinciding with India’s Independence Day.

Cast:

The movie features Allu Arjun in the lead role, supported by Fahadh Faasil, Rashmika Mandanna, Dhananjay, Rao Ramesh, Sunil, and Anasuya Bharadwaj, all reprising their roles from the previous installment.

Crew:

The highly anticipated film boasts a talented team behind the scenes. Directed by Sukumar, the script is penned by Sukumar himself along with Srikanth Vissa. Produced by Naveen Yerneni and Yalamanchili Ravi Shankar under Mythri Movie Makers, the cinematography is handled by Miroslaw Kuba Brozek, while editing duties are shared by Karthika Srinivas and Ruben. In addition to this, the music is being composed by the renowned Devi Sri Prasad.

Plot:

‘Pushpa 2: The Rule’ will continue the story from where the first part left off. Following the relentless pursuit of Pushpa by SP Bhanwar Singh Shekhawat, he loses his mother and brother in the process. However, he manages to escape with the help of his wife Srivalli and friend Kesava. Now, this sequel will delve into Pushpa’s quest for revenge against Shekhawat, promising audiences a gripping narrative that’s filled with drama, action, plot twists, and suspense. The movie is sure to keep you at the edge of your seats. 

Budget:

With a budget of Rs 500 crore, the film is undoubtedly one of the most expensive films ever made in the history of Indian cinema.

Rajkummar reprises his role as Vicky, while Shraddha once again portrays the mysterious character without a name. Pankaj Tripathi Abhishek Banerjee, Aparshakti Khurana, and Sunita Rajwar are back as Rudra, Jana, Bittu, and Jana's mother, respectively. Tamannaah Bhatia is the new addition to the movie.Despite making a special appearance as Shama in the peppy track Aaj Ki Raat, she also plays a crucial role in the movie. The recently released-romantic song Khoobsurat depicts the reunion of Bhaskar and Stree post Thumkeshwari from Bhediya, which also starred Kriti Sanon . After the events of Stree, the town of Chanderi is being haunted again. This time, women are mysteriously abducted by a terrifying headless entity. Once again, it's up to Vicky and his friends to save their town and loved ones.

Stree's fear has ended in Chanderi. While the mysterious women who helped Vicky has also disappeared and villagers feel he is gone crazy for loving a ghost. Auron Mein Kahan Dum Tha[a] is a 2024 Indian Hindi-language romantic thriller film written and directed by Neeraj Pandey.[4][5] The film stars Ajay Devgn and Tabu in their tenth film together[6] alongside Jimmy Sheirgill, Shantanu Maheshwari and Saiee Manjrekar.[7][8]

The project between Pandey and Devgn was announced in October 2022. Principal photography commenced in February 2023 and wrapped in April 2023.[9] The film score and soundtrack album was composed by M. M. Keeravani.

Auron Mein Kahan Dum Tha was initially scheduled to be released on 5 July 2024, but later delayed on request of film exhibitors and film distributors.[10][11] It was eventually released theatrically on 2 August 2024 to mixed reviews from critics and became a box-office bomb, grossing only ₹12 crore in its theatrical run.[12][13][14]

Plot

The film story follows a couple whose love story spans 23 years from 2000 to 2023, delving into the emotional depth and evolving dynamics of their relationship over two decades. Krishna gets involved in multiple murders and is sentenced to life imprisonment. This leads to Vasudha getting separated from him and marrying Abhijeet. After 22 years when Krishna is released from prison after getting pardon, he yearns to meet Vasudha. It culminates in one final meeting between Krishna and Vasudha.

Auron Mein Kahan Dum Tha bears a slight resonance of 2023 English-Korean drama Past Lives. It tracked the lives of two characters over a period of 24 years as they go their separate ways and reunite after years under different circumstances, only for one of them to realise they never stopped loving the other person. It was straight to the point, and the emotions felt raw. Minimalism sadly isn’t friends with Bollywood’s style of storytelling.

This Hindi drama kicks off with convict Krishna (played by Ajay Devgn) who doesn’t want to leave prison. He’s serving a double murder sentence for 23 years now. Why he did what he did is basically the plot of Auron Mein, quite wafer thin indeed.

Shantanu Maheshwari plays Ajay’s younger self in 2001, in love with Vasudha (a sprightly Saiee Manjrekar). Their chemistry is believable, and that was important because their older selves are played by Ajay and Tabu, who are doing their zillionth film together. But one night changes their lives forever. Why does Vasudha not wait for Krishna? Why does he not want to come out of jail? Who makes them meet finally?

Ashok Galla 2 Glimpse: Action-packed

Superstar Mahesh Babu’s nephew Ashok Galla teamed up with director Arjun Jandyala of Guna 369 fame for a family and action entertainer with a novel story. The makers wishing Ashok on his birthday came up with a special glimpse.
Ashok Galla is seen taking on goons in the glimpse where he appears in a rustic and rugged look with a thick mustache and curly hair. Built a chiseled physique, Ashok Galla seems to be playing an action-packed role in the movie. Arjun Jandyala is a protégé of Boyapati Sreenu and we can see the mass director’s kind of taking in the action episode.

S Balakrishna is producing the movie on Lalithambika Productions banner. Prasanth Varma offered the story, while Burra Sai Madhav penned the dialogues. Bheems Ceciroleo scores the music, while Prasad Murella is the cinematographer.

Review: The movie starts as a comedy set in a small town called Jagodhar, where a politician Dauji’s (Annu Kapoor) henchman, Gannu (Jitendra Kumar) vows to fast until death to ban alcohol. But here’s the problem – he is himself an alcoholic, and he publicly announces this when he is hungover. The drama unfolds when his protest gains steam and media attention, and he becomes a messiah for the local women who are fed up with their husbands’ alcoholism. The story is about the hurdles he faces, primarily dealing with withdrawal symptoms and resisting taking to the bottle again. He must also contend with Dauji, who owns a local thheka, and his followers Balwant (Shrikant Verma) and Satto (Sunil Palwal) as they try to bring Gannu down.

Written and directed by Saurabh Shukla, the film’s first half deals with Gannu trying to build an image to win the election as a local corporator. His drunken shenanigans and half-witted plans with his stooges, Chainta (Abhishek Srivastava), Kunne (Aditya Sinha), Maddi (Saurabh Nayyar), and Jagat (Padmesh Krishna Tiwari), are entertaining. However, the story and plot take a while to find a firm footing.

Although the narrative deals with alcoholism, it’s understated as a problem, which makes sequences seem abrupt and unconvincing as the story progresses. The narrative has too many tracks and occasionally relies upon tropes and cliches, especially in the climax.

Shukla handles the directorial duties well and mellifluously transforms the film’s tonality from comic to serious. Cinematographer Adri Thakur gets the small-town vibe perfectly and captures it stunningly in top and wide angles.

Jitendra Kumar delivers a strong performance and convinces as both a lout in the first half and a changed man in the second. He is especially good in the scenes where he tries to mend his ways but is unsuccessful owing to his faults and bad habits. Shriya Pilgaonkar, as his wife, Nirmala, performs commendably. The duo has easy on-screen chemistry as husband and wife. Annu Kapoor stands out as the politician, and gets the pretence of being a supportive and loving senior bang-on. Shrikant Verma deserves mention as the cunning liquor shop owner.

While entertaining in parts, the movie could have been more engaging. Nevertheless, it’s a decent one-time watch for the small-town world that’s created and for its quirky feel.
